What are gasket sheets

What is Gasket Paper?

Gasket paper is a type of sheet that is used for making gaskets. This sheet is available in different sizes and thicknesses. A gasket sheet is created using the gasket paper.

Gasket manufacturers manufacture gasket papers from various robust materials which include nitrile, silicone rubber, and cork. The new gasket will form a leak-proof seal when it is fitted to pipework or machinery.

Also, if we talk about the flexibility and durability of the material, it will always have an added property that makes them ideal for some uses. It is highly resistant to high pressure and temperatures. Other materials may be oil resistant or provide electrical insulation.

What is Gasket Sheet?

A gasket sheet is a mechanical seal, it fills up the gap between two or more mating surfaces. Basically, it is used to prevent leakage into the joined objects while under compression.

It is a deformable material used to form a stable seal and maintain it under various operating conditions in mechanical assemblies.

Mainly the purpose of the gasket is to fill up leaks and permanent compensation of joints, and the basic feature of the gasket is compressibility and elastic recovery, which is the essence of the sealing material. Traditionally, Gasket manufacturers use precursor sheets of flexible material, i.e., gasket sheets, from which the required sizes and shapes of gaskets are punched out. A few years ago, there were sheets of leather, felt, rubber, cork, cardboard, asbestos, etc. However, now modern tools significantly increased the requirements for ideal working gaskets and their durability.

Presently, there are more advanced materials are available for industrial gaskets for example PTFE, mica, graphite, compressed fiber glass, aramid, and carbon fibers bonded with elastomers.

Use of Gasket Sheets

Gasket sheets are most commonly used for industrial uses like acting as a seal for connecting two water pipes. It can also be used to seal fuel tanks and boilers. In all cases, the gasket helps to prevent the leakage of liquids and gases between the component parts.

Common Uses and Types of Gaskets

Sheet Gaskets

Sheet gaskets are ‘punched’ out of a sheet of material (usually a type of synthetic rubber) and it is mainly used to seal pipes and tanks that are containing chemicals.

Ideally, sheet gaskets are used with steam, acids, and corrosive chemicals.

Spiral Gaskets

Mainly spiral gaskets are used in offshore oil and gas pipelines. They are solid ring-shaped gaskets that operate under extremely high.

Kammprofile Gaskets

These gasket sheets are flexible and reliable in construction, they are suitable for use in older seals. These gaskets also have a metal corrugated core with a flexible covering layer and also allow tight seal and high compression level.

Before buying, you should always seek advice on the most suitable type of gasket paper according to your industrial gasket’s requirements.
